A central-city parish with a variety of worship styles within the Anglican tradition and a strong ethos of outreach to the community through meals for those in need, pastoral care to those in need. We run a variety of ministries including an opportunity shop, Growing through Grief and an early childhood centre (St Francis Whanau Aroha).

Worship:
Sunday - 8am: usually NZ Prayer Book - hymns on alternate Sundays, Easter and Christmas.
10am: our main morning Communion Service over a typical month will include a choral Eucharist, contemporary worship lead by a music group, a family friendly Eucharist, with laity and clergy sharing leadership. Music is a mixture of contemporary and traditional. Preaching is based on the Revised Common Lectionary readings of the day.
Wednesday - 10am: half hour Eucharist with informal reflective talk followed by morning tea.

Messy Church at St Luke's ...a different way of being church!  2nd Sunday of the month, 4-6pm

Messy Church began in the UK in 2004 and is now established in many places around the world 

Ethos: St Luke’s is a mature Anglican community of faith with Parishioners of all ages who hold a range of views yet join together joyfully for worship, fellowship, community service, outreach and social occasions. Children and families are especially welcome. There is always room for healthy discussion on different views and issues. Easy to be inconspicuous but parish tries to welcome all and meet their needs. The Church is open from 9am-3pm each day and people are welcome to drop in.

Ethnicity: Mainly Pakeha but also Zimbabweans, Koreans, Dutch, Indian, English, Norwegian and Maori. Te Reo encouraged in part of liturgy.

Social: Regular social occasions vary from: Pancakes, Wine Wit and Wisdom (Trivial Pursuit) Dinners and BBQs, among other events. Parish joins Tikanga Maori for some services and BBQ/dinners. Coffee/tea after 10am Sunday service.

Training: Five home groups for Bible study; ongoing training for liturgists, lectors, intercessors; Lenten and Advent studies open to all.

Outreach: Drop-in centre from 11am-1 pm; 40-50 people come for weekly meal, singing and fellowship. Growing through Grief programme. St Francis Whanau Childcare and Family Support Centre open to children under 5. St Luke’s Centreshop op shop with proceeds shared with community.

Highlights: Every Sunday is a great day but we also offer special services at All Saints (November), Advent & Christmas and during Holy Week & Easter and on St Luke’s Day (in October).
